The red line between operational work and human creativity.
Around the world, publishers are committing to "responsible use of AI." We've built a platform that helps them uphold that commitment, for writers, editors, and readers alike. In Manuscript, AI removes friction from the editorial process without taking the pen out of the human's hand.
What follows is what we believe, in plain language, and what we will not do.
I.
The cursor belongs to the author.
When a reader cracks a book open, they should be able to trust that the story came from someone. We invest in this trust by treating the blank page as sacred. Text appears because a human author chose to put there. Our AI editor will never suggest a sentence, complete a paragraph, or finish a thought. Not even by accident.
II.
AI helps you see your story clearly and take sound actions.
We supply useful AI-powered tools: The Mirror, the Critic, the Architect. These reflect, analyze, and structure, surfacing the work you've already done, from angles you couldn't see before. They do not generate prose. Nor do they pretend to be the author. We have drawn that line in code: read-only by design.
III.
Every choice is tagged at the source.
Every annotation and comment carries the name of who supplied it. These can come from the author, a first reader, an editor, or an AI tool. This is valuable metadata for the creative process, offering courtesy to the next person who opens the file and wants to know whose hand was on the page.
IV.
Your manuscript belongs to you; we keep it that way.
A delightful authoring experience is easy to join and easy to leave. Markdown on disk. Standard formats on export. No proprietary lock-in, no premium-tier export wall. If you want to leave us, take everything with you. We want to earn the privilege of supporting your creative process.
V.
We protect your creative work and never trainon it.
Your manuscript is yours. We do not feed it to our models, nor do we feed it to anyone else's. The text you write here is read by you, the people you invite, and the tools you choose. No one / nothing else.
If this sounds like your kind of writing room — start here.
